Back in the Haller Lake neighborhood again, I got another view of the lake from the dead-end street at 128th and Meridian. This viewpoint with its public access is smaller than yesterday's.

The area I walked today included quite a bit of property owned by institutions or public entities. I spotted Ingraham High School, the Haller Lake United Methodist Church, Little People's World, Lakeside School, Helene Madison Pool, Haller Lake Market, the Haller Lake Community Club, and ...

... the Chinese-Vietnamese Buddhist Association.

I also noted a large painted rock.

This path connects two ends of Ashworth Avenue between 125th and 128th and it looks as if the sidewalk along 130th has been extended across Ashworth to make 128th and Ashworth a dead-end street.

Along this 4 mile walk, I passed four Little Free Libraries. They contained children's books (a few in Korean), cookbooks, novels, and some Christmas decorations.

I was back in the western part of Laurelhurst today and got so turned around by some of the streets that I wound up walking 5 miles to cover streets that I should have completed in fewer steps. Starting out in an area sandwiched between Sand Point Way to the north, the UW Botanic Gardens and the  Center for Urban Horticulture to the south, Talaris property to the east and UW student housing to the west made me feel separated from the rest of Laurelhurst. There were lots of dead-ends bordering these nine city blocks which include businesses along Sand Point Way and single family homes everywhere else. Many are still the original single story houses but some have been replaced by three story homes. Some of the restaurants along Sand Point Way have changed and the food truck and brew pub may not have been here 12 years ago.  I noticed lots of new curb cuts and this No Parking sign all over this area.   Today was too beautiful a day not to take a walk. A chore took me to the Stevens Neighborhood on Capitol Hill. I knew I had started near a low point in Madison Valley as I walked up from E Madison Street along the steep hill on Roy Street. At 22nd Avenue E, I passed the athletic center behind the distinctive dome of Holy Names Academy. Approaching 19th Avenue E, I spotted shops and restaurants. I continued past some beautiful, tree-lined streets until coming to ...  15th Avenue E with its shops, new construction and new 'paid parking' blocks. The area close to 15th is home to Kaiser Permanente and some lovely old apartment buildings. Heading back east, I noted many lovely older homes, Saint Joseph's Church, Meany Middle School, ... ... houses decorated for Halloween, and ... ... at 24th and Mercer, a view of Lake Washington and the Eastside. After dropping friends off at the airport, my husband and I stopped for a short walk in the Madison Park neighborhood. We started by the water at the base of E Madison Street. Just south and west of the beach lies the commercial part of the street. We noted restaurants, pubs, a kitchen store, a jewelers, a bakery and a few other shops on this northeast end of Madison. Walking north along 43rd Avenue E, we passed a spa, the north beach (with quite a few dog walkers) and densely packed housing including condos on the water. At E McGilvra Street, we came to the Edgewater. These tidy, two story brick apartments are on the water and most likely predate the 520 floating bridge, visible nearby.
