No walk today but my husband and I did tour the USGS Fisheries labs in their buildings abutting Magnuson Park.

We learned that the methods for detecting the ages of a fish and trees are similar.

We were told how fish scientists determine if a fish is sick.

We saw some of the tools they use.

We heard about the effect 6PPD, used in tires, has on fish health and which salmon are most sensitive to this toxin.

We also heard about the effects of climate change and light saturation on the salmon population in Lake Washington.

We saw some fish in tanks ...

.. and research boats.

Then, I helped paint a 'Save Our Salmon' mural on a storage building.

Hopefully, our political leaders will listen to their scientists and really help  save our salmon.
