It was 60 degrees when I started today's walk in the Ravenna and Roosevelt neighborhoods. I was thankful to be living in Seattle where it's cool enough to take a long walk most days. As I walked around Cowen and Ravenna Parks, I noted a few signs designating the area as a National Historic District. I hope that offers some protections to aid preserving the feel of the neighborhood because ...
... just a few blocks away, this ...
... has been replaced by this ...
... and this.
Walking south on 20th Avenue NE, I came to ...
Ravenna Park Bridge (open to walkers and cyclists) where I could look down on the park below ...
... or look out and feel as if I were in the tree canopy.
Continuing to the lovely, tree-lined Ravenna Boulevard, I noted the Seven Market & Cafe tucked behind some palm trees. Then I walked around Park Place NE, better known as Candy Cane Lane.
Looping around to NE 58th Street, I discovered that it was a street in some places, an alley in others, and a footpath in yet others.
Back on Ravenna Boulevard, I had to climb stairs to get to the sidewalk.
Dead-ends off Ravenna Blvd., led to park entrances ...
... and lots of No Parking signs.
Walking north across the Cowen Park Bridge at 15th Avenue NE, I came to the small but tidy circular plot (which my map calls Whitaker Park) at the intersection of NE 63rd Street, NE Naomi Place and 17th Avenue NE.
Walking on and near the commercial 65th Street, I noted this sign.
Exploring, I came to this sign but the store is closed on Mondays so I will have to return to investigate the oddities.
The old Dania store is now an LA Fitness. Portage Bay Cafe now has a restaurant on 65th. There is a lot for sale at the intersection of 64th and 12th (kitty-corner from Whole Foods). I passed The Westie, Health Mutt, Kettlebility, Bagel Oasis, Zeek's Pizza, The Inn at Third Place, Third Place Books, McCarthy & Schiering Wine Marchants, and restaurants and cafes both old and new.
Parking strip art ...
... including Fairy Doors entertained me.
Large trees shaded me.
Garden art amused me (plus the bench offered a chance to linger).
