Lovely tree-lined streets greeted my friend and me as we walked through the Stevens neighborhood of Capitol Hill today.
Beautiful, well-kept older homes, such as this Maryknoll House were typical of the area. This particular house reminded us that Capitol Hill was once referred to as Catholic Hill.
This community bulletin board was nestled into a spot where cars are forced to turn rather than continue along 16th Avenue E.
Walking to 15th Avenue and heading north, we admired the view from the Louisa Boren Lookout.Passing Volunteer Park and Lakeview Cemetery (both of which I shall visit in the future), we walked north to E Boston Street where we turned east and followed the delightful loop road which ...
... lead us to this staircase up to 15th.
Heading south and east, we came to this tidy patio in back of ...
... the Volunteer Park Cafe where we noted a USPS mailbox.Further south on 17th, the houses were not as grand but we did come across the appealing Park Manor Townhomes. They have much more garden space than the new townhomes I have seen lately.
Turning west onto E Harrison, these brass letters in the sidewalk reminded me that I was in an older part of Seattle than the Northeast section I have been visiting recently. At 15th and John, we admired the fare at Bakery Nouveau so much that we had to enjoy some - yummy!!!
Refreshed, we walked north on 15th, spotting this mural on our way to ...... the Nook & Cranny Bookstore where the helpful proprietor helped me pick out a book that might appeal to a 13 year old boy.
Good company, a good pastry, finding a good book, and an interesting neighborhood made the 4.5 mile walk especially enjoyable. Along the way, we passed three Little Free Libraries. One contained mostly jigsaw puzzles and a few children's books. The others contained a few paperback novels and a book on "Slime Science" (both of us have grandchildren who like making slime but neither of us knew what to do with it after its creation.)
