Victory Heights greeted me today with poppies, ....

... rhodies,

... plantings, ...

... unexpected green space (like this one at Goodwin Way NE and 19th Avenue), ...

... a beautiful Monkey Tail tree that managed to grow far enough from overhead wires to avoid being butchered, ...

... and even a pocket park. This is Pinehurst Pocket Park at 117th and 19th, which, according to my neighborhood maps, is near Pinehurst but in Victory Heights. My maps may be wrong because the Pinehurst Community Council posts information here.
Every street of my meandering walk was different. Most of the homes were single family but there were apartments close to 15th. Many homes were older and modest. There were some newer, much larger homes. There were some vacant lots, some lots which appeared to have been subdivided years ago, some lots which were recently subdivided and now contained three homes. Sidewalks appeared and disappeared and, seemingly out of the blue, I came across this cul-de-sac with sidewalks, curbs and underground utilities!

On my 5.5 mile walk, I spotted this Henry mural painted on the home of Screenprint Northwest, ...

... some decorated utility boxes, ...

... a fence with many murals, ...

... and some colorfully painted buildings.

I noted  this message on some mailboxes and wondered if the residents really had to go to Mountlake Terrace to get their mail. The address given is for a medical facility, not a post office????

There are quite a few Ethiopian shops, restaurants and a church in this area. There is also a mosque, a Little Free Food Pantry, and a large street mural by Victory Heights Play Ground. I spotted one sign painted on the street warning that runoff drains to Puget Sound (the sign was in Spanish).

Along the way, I passed eight Little Free Libraries. They contained novels, children's books, and non fiction. I could have read a lot about James Joyce, American Literature, Tarot cards, sharpening my brain, team building, or history.
