Chores took me to the Olympic Hills neighborhood this morning and walking from NE 127th and 145th Streets between 15th and 30th Avenues I came across quite a few closed streets. The City is asking for feedback on its Healthy Streets project to determine if the streets should remain closed or return to Neighborhood Greenway status. Since there were so few sidewalks, it was nice to be able to walk in the streets without worrying too much about traffic.

Even though I walked close to busy 145th Street, there were times I almost felt as if I were in the country ...

...

... or in a suburb.

Well, I would have been in Shoreline if I had crossed 145th Street.

I did spot a mother bear and her cubs at Brown Bear Carwash ...

... and a "Save Our Trees" poster near a lovely tree in a front yard. I think it was the number of tall trees that provided the almost rural feel to some streets. I did notice a number of new houses on lots that had been subdivided and hope that no trees are being lost in these quests for density.

During my 6 mile walk, I passed this sculpture at the Lake City Fire Station, Seattle Gymnastics Academy, the new Olympic Hills School, Olympic Hills Church of the Nazarene, a sign offering free Capoeira classes for hyperactive kids, a large vacant lot for sale (on 145th just east of QFC), and a sign for the 29th annual Rainbow Heritage/Cultural Festival at St. Matthew's School.

The Seed snd Sharing Shack didn't have any seeds today but people were sharing canned goods. I noticed two Little Free Libraries. The first had only one book at the beginning of my walk but loads of children's book at the end of it. The second one also had lots of children's books.
