Twelve and a half years ago I started my original blog (walkingseattle.blogspot.com). It took me four years to walk every public street in the City of Seattle. During Covid, I have continued to walk many streets in my neighborhood. Now that it feels safe to ride public transportation again, it's time to revisit many more neighborhoods and see if they have changed. My first walk was in the Cedar Park Neighborhood and, I suspect, its changes will be mirrored around the city.

This is quite a mixed neighborhood with the western portion abutting Lake City Way and the eastern portion overlooking Lake Washington. The easternmost streets are entirely residential, probably comprised of single family homes but one small townhouse development appears to have been built, maybe in the last 10 years.

My husband and I did pass walkers, dog walkers and gardeners in this area. We also had some nice views of Lake Washington (when overloaded utility poles didn't get in the way). We spotted lots of laurel hedges and a few blackberry patches here.

The middle section was mostly modest homes during my last walk but some of them have been replaced by larger, fancier homes. This is a friendly feeling area with a Little Free Pick It Fence, a Little Free Library ...

... and a Poetry Pole.

We also passed walkers and dog walkers in the section.

The westernmost section is a mix of residential and commercial with businesses along Lake City Way. Some older homes in this section have been replaced by densely packed multifamily dwellings. There are two large Senior Housing facilities on the east side of Lake City Way. A few deserted businesses look to be awaiting development.

Traffic along Lake City Way was busy and we had to wait to cross over to the west side. We stopped at Goodies Market to admire the great selection of Middle Eastern food.

We also stopped at Man'oushe Express and shared a savory Zaatar and Cheese Mana'eesh (flatbread). Service was fast and friendly and the Mana'eesh was very tasty. We had each eaten a slice before I remembered to take a picture.

Today's walk was over 6,000 steps, probably between two and half and three miles.
